IS THIS THE FUTURE OF YOUR HOME THEATER SYSTEM?

WHY LG’S LATEST MAY BE A GAME-CHANGER FOR 4K DISPLAYS

What’s the future of the home theater system in your Charlotte, NC property look like?

If LG – one of the leading manufacturers of 4K OLED video displays – has anything to say about it, it may just be rollable.

What does that mean? At this year’s CES, they unveiled a working prototype of what could be a massive shift in the way we watch TV.

It’s a TV that rolls up like a movie poster.

Is this what the next generation of 4K TVs will look like? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, why not catch all the details of the coolest gadget we saw at this year’s CES right here?

Just keep reading for more.

So your first question is, probably, how does this work?

According to Digital Trends, it’s pretty straightforward.

“This is how it works: a flexible OLED panel is mounted to a motorized spindle, set in a rectangular box. You can’t see the mechanics, all you see is the TV going up and down. But why would you want to be able to move your TV up and down like this?”

Essentially, it’s the ultimate hidden video technology. When you want to see it, you can simply tap a button and unroll the device. When you want to hide it, it disappears almost completely.

It solves a dilemma that many homeowners face – especially those with an eye for design.

Specifically: How do you decorate around a giant, wall-mounted flat-panel?

But the applications of the rolling TV go beyond simply hiding it when you don’t want to use it.

The display is anamorphic, which means if you’re watching a widescreen movie (2.39:1 aspect ratio), you won’t have to see the black bars at the bottom and the top.

The TV can adjust in height to create the appropriate shape for your screen.

It’s one of the most versatile pieces of home theater technology we’ve ever seen.

WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

Unfortunately, the rolling TV is still a few years away from hitting the shelves.

But that’s ok, because there are plenty of technologies available right now to help you hide your components and preserve the beauty of your spaces.

For instance, motorized lifts can be utilized to tuck TV displays within pieces of furniture when they’re not in use. One-touch and you can begin enjoying your media instantly.

Or if you’re a fan of projectors, short-throw units exist within cabinets to keep them out of sight as well.
